The Italian Institute of Bioethics is a multidisciplinary association opened to healthcare professionals, teachers, philosophers, consultants, and all others who have an interest in the field of  bioethics.

It intends to propose analysis on the moral, social, legal, philosophical problems generated by the developments of biomedical sciences and new technologies. Its members do believe that the increase of the tecno-scientific competences has, in the last few decades, not triggered a parallel development of the ability to elaborate satisfactory ethical appraisals of their consequences. Such increase of the knowledge raises previously unknown questions and forces us to make choices, which require a deep analysis, which must focus not only on the traditional medical ethics, but, more in general, on the "right to the life".

Not only do the Bioethics, as "ethics of the life", relate to the human world, but also to the environment where the various forms of life develop. The animals ethics and environmental ethics, therefore, also deserve consideration, alongside the medical ethics, on the basis of effective unity of the entire living world and of the need to protect the biodiversity and with a view to promoting the concept of global bioethics.

The consciousness of the increased risks generated by a dogmatic use of the scientific discoveries raises questions that involve every individual, with his personal system of values, and the entire social community, in the variety of its articulations. Therefore, the analysis of such questions is carried out with a pluralistic and intercultural approach, opened to the exchange of views, even when very different one from the other, and to the dialogue.
